MUSICAL CHAIRS (2010)
When school funding is cut, the 1st to go is visual and performing arts.
Musical Chairs is a temporary installation constructed by sculptors Peter Haberkorn and Matt Kotlarczyk, commemorating the groundbreaking of The Clifton Cultural Arts Center-formerly Clifton School.
In this special circumstance, the beautiful Beux Arts style school building has been reclaimed, given a new opportunity to serve the arts and artists again.
Musical Chairs uses available materials left behind from the school days-chairs, teacher and student sizes, music stands and sheet music written in and about Cincinnati.
The sculptures made from the materials on hand combine precarious balance and strong geometry, monotone synthetic and natural colors-something like the abstraction of learning.
